Exploring the world of comic strips through vague Japanese poetry.

February 21, 2008

The content on this page is solely created by you, the viewers, so if you want to see more, you'll have to contribute something yourself.

  1. Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...

Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)

Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!

  2. The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.

On with the haikus!

The answer to haiku number one is a little bit of both, Alyce...

Hi Brian,

Enjoyed your Clinton comics! Keep up the good work.
Engineer Week tickles the brains of those like Brian. What will Wednesday bring to those who need a challenge? Although my little brain cannot figure out the answers, I look forward to the answers.

Is "Rockwood's Mailbag"
full of Haikus for Thursday
or mail for Tuesday?

Only Brian knows.

--Alyce

Haiku number two tries to solve the story problems, and while the answers are right (even the syllables!), it didn't show any work...

Work keeps me from math.
But the answer to 2, no.
3 is the Chat Room.

--Sarcasmo

Haiku number three both rhymes AND features political overtones. Also, we believe it's the first ever haiku about the current head of the Federal Reserve...

McCain's campaign gains
Let's Samba with Obama,
or Cry with Clinton.

Hand me a hankie
The world is run by such men
As Ben Bernanke.

--Michael

Haiku number four gets Haiku of the Week because our long-time reader Xina wrote it for charity. We're donating; you can, too!...

Hi Brian! In all seriousness, I'm taking part in the Lindy-Hop for Life, which raises money for cancer treatment for those who otherwise couldn't afford it. Last year 92% of the money raised went directly to City of Hope. The event is on March 8th-9th in Irvine CA. I don't mean to hijack Haiku Thursday, but I'm trying to get the word out to as many people as possible! My team has already raised $10,000 in 22 days, and we're still hoping to raise more!
