Exploring the world of comic strips through vague Japanese poetry.

April 11, 2002

The content on this page is solely created by you, the viewers, so if you want to see more, you'll have to contribute something yourself.

  1. Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...

Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)

Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!

  2. The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.

On with the haikus!

The author of haiku number one has obviously been reading the secret messages underneath certain comic strips...

How 'bout some Cheetos?
Gross! No thanks! At least pizza
Has some calcium.

--The American Style Healthy Eater

Haiku number two's author is six months ahead (or six months behind) the rest of us, or perhaps living in the Southern Hemisphere...

Not exactly in season but here goes...

Fall

Yellow, Orange, Red,
Serenity in silence,
Fall colors embraced.

--Leif Johnson

Haiku number three is as thrown off by the time change as Team Rockwood is...

I think I know why Haiku Thursday is sparse:

Daylight Savings Time
Means no haikus. I need to
Catch up on my sleep.

Goodnight!

--Christina

Haiku number four is drive-by poetry...

So, it's not the best! I never said I was any good! The sign outside of the local high school said that since it was poetry week people should commit random acts of poetry, so here's mine.

It's poetry week!
Therefore I am compelled to
Contribute something.

--Konrad

Haiku number five's author thinks this site is far, far more popular than it really is...

At the last minute,
Much haikus sent in for a
Ten gigabyte page.

--The Big Optimist

Haiku number six appeals to our capitalist side...

Haiku Thursday sparse.
Site needs more traffic so the
Calendars will sell.

--Dale

Haiku number seven is Haiku of the Week not only for being epic in length, but also for having clearly read more than one page. It must be noted, however, that we don't compose the viewer mail, we just post it. We don't know what everything means, either...

Not much time to write
I have to do my homework
But you asked for it

April Fools' Comic
What ugly little monsters
Thank god it's a joke

What is a bastage?
That is not in my vocab
Please define the word

Internet was down
No Rockwood for three whole days!
Damn you, GCI

Procrastinator
I can sit and type haiku
And get no work done

Glitches in the mail
This could be sent to you twice
I'm stuck in Haiku!

--Holly

Finally, haiku number reminds us that several men in black helicopters await us if we don't get our paperwork done by next Monday...

Taxes what a pain
Adding multiplying, boy
A refund sounds good

--Paul
