- Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...
Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)
Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!
- The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.
On with the haikus!
Haiku number one is from a frequent contributor trying to solve her own mystery. She's close, but not quite there...
You ask who I am.
Do you really want to know?
Haiku High Priestess.
Zen is flowing forth -
Or whatever this stuff is.
Must write haiku now!
I'm Californian,
But with an English husband.
I live in London.
Longtime Foxtrot fan,
Found Rockwood through Bill Amend.
I'm addicted now!
I've "haiku-ed" ten times,
Haiku of the Week four times.
Will this make it five?
Well, there you have it.
The mystery is no more.
Are you happy now?
Do you want to know
Anything else about me?
Just ask in haiku?
--The elusive Christina
Haiku number two's author thinks he knows the secret to the weekly title, but also just misses...
Ok, this haiku has blatant commercialism and a reference to the current comic. That's got to be the formula for Haiku of the week...
Where does the time go?
Buy a Rockwood calendar,
And then you will know!
Ok, wait I forgot to praise the tireless work of Team Rockwood and add some Chemical X. I must have been distracted by the incredibly clear audio on that tape I made of the U.S. Women's Open. That gets me each time I listen to it...
--Brian Layman
Perhaps haiku number three demonstrates that weekly titles are all relative...
Hawking says Einstein
needs to work on his numbers.
Too bad he's still dead.
~Q.
Haiku number four avoids the topic completely, instead trying to score by aiming at Rockwood's geeky roots...
The Lord of the Rings
Is out on DVD now!
Go out and buy it!
Attack of the Clones
On DVD November.
That is a must-buy!

Haiku number five makes an attempt by translating recent strips...
Figure skating fix
sends mobster to space station.
Seeking asylum?
--Konrad
But this week's Haiku of the Week demonstrates the title's true unpredictability. A simple haiku about catching our (now fixed) typo ...
