- Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...
Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)
Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!
- The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.
On with the haikus!
Haiku number one relaxes itself...
Oh, boredom strikes me.
I do not know what to do.
Oh! I know. Haiku!
Haiku relieves me.
Syllables make room for me.
I write just for fun.
It may not make sense
but the words just keep flowing.
Who cares, anyway.
The stress is now gone.
I can, again, start to think.
A thanks to Haiku!
--Larry C.
Haiku number two is tardy and based on last week's winner...
A week late...I might send another in, too:
A May-Day Haiku?
May Day was bad girl in Bond.
But that's all I know!
--The Raven's Mirror
Haiku number three worries about who controls the weather...
Tornadoes abound.
Earth to space station, come in.
Do you feel the force?
Can't help but wonder.
Did Kepler set off a charge?
Weather unstable.
--The same old me!
Haiku number four's author has seen the movie, too...
Flip channels with blink!
Kepler is just like other
kid in the movie.
--Elizabeth
Haiku number five gets in just under the wire...
Last minute entry.
Procrastination is key
to a happy life.
--Sarcasmo
Haiku number six missed the point. The beer was for when you were still in college...
Ahh...I am beginning to feel like Kepler...except he is a little smarter. I just finished graduate school. And now I celebrate my new freedom with....a Haiku.
The thesis is done.
Graduate degree in hand.
Now where is the beer?
--Leif
Haiku number seven gets Haiku of the Week for forcing us to find a translator to make sure we weren't posting anything obscene...
Ocho de Mayo,
Y escribo un haiku
Por Haiku Jueves!
--Christina
