Exploring the world of comic strips through vague Japanese poetry.

July 31, 2003

The content on this page is solely created by you, the viewers, so if you want to see more, you'll have to contribute something yourself.

  1. Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...

Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)

Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!

  2. The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.

On with the haikus!

Haiku number one's author is correct, there doesn't necessarily always have to be a Haiku of the Week winner. However, we like it that way, so that way it will be...

You know, there doesn't always have to be a Haiku of the Week. If there isn't a deserving haiku, the "award" shouldn't really be given out. Please note I'm not arguing against recent winners, just making an objective observation.

If only award shows would work that way. Does anyone really want to see a winner in the category Reality/Competition Program at the upcoming Emmys? Couldn't the announcer get to the mic and say, "We aren't going to reward a winner 'cause reality tv bites."?

Thus, my first summer haiku...Ahem.

Reality shows?
They suck! Please give me a break,
I'm not a voyeur.

C.S.I. reruns
Rule summer airwaves; they're smart,
funny, and so cool.

Plus George Eads, Gary
Dourdan and Eric Szmanda
are very handsome.

Haiku number two takes the blame for last week's sparse turnout...

A missed week equals
A missed opportunity.
The blame is all mine.

Great minds think alike.
When one slacks so do others.
After troughs come waves.

--Sarcasmo

Haiku number three has an interesting idea, but we can't really be spending all of our time looking for haikus. We want people to submit them to us! We're lazy that way...

While you were fishing
You missed Jessica's haiku!
Enough for a week!

Suppose she should win
Haiku of the Week, seeing
No one else wrote one?

--Christina

Can you receive Haiku of the Week just for sucking up to Team Rockwood's favorite team? Apparently so...

Actually, I like "The Raven's Mirror's Haiku Thursday." It has a good ring ;-). Anyway, on to the Haiku:

Go Oklahoma!
Well, the SEC still has
The Auburn Tigers.
