Apparently NBC has forgotten how bad Leno's ratings were after Letterman got screwed over and moved to CBS. At least among my circle of friends and acquaintances at the time (back when we were in college), it was considered very uncool to watch Leno because of the whole debacle. I predict if they try to turn back the clock and reinstate Leno, the same thing will happen, they'll have split their audience and then alienated half of them.

I know what NBC's thinking, they want their old Tonight Show ratings back and they want them back now, but I just don't think that's possible. Long-term the best thing to do would be to leave Conan where he is, but they aren't thinking past the current week's ratings.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. It at least livened up last night's Tonight Show - really funny stuff. I wonder if the controversy created a ratings boost last night, as people tuned in to see what Conan had to say about it.

Well, Bobby, in this long gap between mailbags, Conan went from protesting to out in a matter of weeks, so your letter is already old news.

And while we like Conan --and were among the people who ditched Jay for Dave over a decade ago-- the cold hard facts were that although Letterman on CBS had a strong start, Leno soon passed him in the ratings then continued to beat him for years.

Sadly, Pale Force fans, NBC's decision to ditch Conan for Jay will probably pay off in the short term. Oh well... there's always Fox!

Wondering why last Friday's strip was late? Yes, we got hit again and being snowed in makes us sleepy and lazy, Jim. We did get a strip up for Friday, though. It was just a few hours late.
