March 11, 2010,

Hi Brian,

I don't have the you tube link, but, you should check out the new State Farm video. I thought of you when I saw it. Whoever engineered the domino fall is really good.

Well, Alyce, the video "This Too Shall Pass" by OK Go isn't itself about State Farm insurance, but if you look right at the beginning, the whole chain reaction is started by a State Farm toy truck. And that truck is in there because State Farm sponsored the video, allowing it to be embedded on other people's websites. And that has allowed this video to go viral (OK Go is familiar with viral videos), getting over eight million hits in just two weeks.

And good for them! Admit it... if you watch those two videos, you not only start to sing along, but you start wondering if OK Go might have some other songs you like, don't you? That's the power of the music video.

The only sad part is there used to be a channel that showed these "music videos" on television. This channel used to actually break bands and be important in the music industry. Now, much like their new logo, they're just a shadow of their former self. Maybe someday someone will try it again. It's just a matter of time before someone covers "Video Killed The Radio Star."
