Exploring the world of comic strips through vague Japanese poetry.

February 6, 2003

The content on this page is solely created by you, the viewers, so if you want to see more, you'll have to contribute something yourself.

  1. Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...

Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)

Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!

  2. The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.

On with the haikus!

Haiku number one's author and his broken bones await springtime...

Poor Raiders ;)

The sticks are so sharp
The stone is oh so heavy
My body is broke

And I'm wishing for spring in this wintery cold too.

A flash of feathers
The flurry of beating wings
Their sojourn begins

--Larry Campbell

Haiku number two invites us to get tangled up in a giant legal snafu over intellectual property rights...

On the subject of Haikus:

I think that Brian
Should make a book of Haikus.
Just like real poets!

And on the belated subject of the Superbowl:

The Super Bowl ads
Were not very good this year.
But the game was great!

--Shadow

Haiku number three protests our web vote button, which works so poorly we've actually written a letter to the people who run it giving them three days to get their act together or we're gone. And no, we don't go to any of those sites, either...

Web strip vote junkies
Endless pestering for votes
Insufferable

Pointless, annoying
Popularity contests
Signifying null

And what good comes thence?
Do *you* read any of these?
Uh-huh. Me neither.

--grumpy old man

Haiku number four is Haiku of the Week. It should be obvious why...

Nice comic on Monday. Those words do ring so true. Anyway, here's a small tribute...

Columbia lost.
Heroes from this small planet,
Space, final frontier.

--Leif
