- Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...
Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)
Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!
- The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.
On with the haikus!
We love the smell of haiku number one in the morning. It smells like...victory...

Our troops in Baghdad
--Bob
Haiku number two points out the danger of banning something and then leaving...
Oh, give me a break.
Bad link leads to Rockwood ban?
No sense of humor!
John will not read this:
Rockwood's not a favorite now!
Let's mock him freely!
--Christina
Haiku number three exercises some First Amendment rights...
Hey Brian. You are as middle of the road as they come. I always admire how you can cover all the angles.
Poor John. It is his loss if he chooses to not click on Rockwood. Either John does not know or has chosen to forget that people died in wars years ago for his freedom to protest and my freedom to believe. Thank God for Americans then and now for preserving peace and protecting our freedoms.
Actually, John caused me to write this Haiku!
Freedom has a price.
Again, we are paying it.
Iraq is lucky.
We liberated
France and Germany as well.
We were merciful.
We did not take land,
and we rebuilt their countries
and sent them NO BILL.
They quickly forgot
what the Americans did
and are still doing.
John can still protest
and I can support this war.
We have our freedoms.
--Alyce
Haiku number four's author was probably relieved by Wednesday's events...
war is not fun, but
sometimes necessary, so
lets pray its done soon
bush made the right choice,
lets get it done quickly, and
finish it for good
--Kat
Haiku number five's author wants a gift of something that can only be earned. Sorry TRM!
Today's my 16th
Birthday. Can I have Haiku
Of the Week? A gift?
--Thy Raven's Mirror
Haiku number six earns Haiku of the Week for being a simple haiku about haiku...
If I count to five
and then I count to seven...
I can write haiku??
--David C
