Lutefisk? I much prefer that great old New York Christmas tradition... Christmas Eve Chinese Take-Out.

Really? We always thought Chinese food on Christmas was a dine-in experience.

Well, we saved it for you, Simon, but you never showed up! Fortunately for you, we canned our leftovers and will serve you the fermented remains next year. Hope to see you then!

December 21, 2006,
There is only one thing worse than lutefisk; and that is mass-produced lutefisk. I kid you not, my alma mater, Saint Olaf College, actually serves lutefisk during the Christmas season in the college cafeteria.
The caf would get dressed up during the holidays on account of the multitudes of parents and alumni that would be around for events like Christmas Festival. So I'm sitting with my friends at a caf table that is draped with a paper tablecloth and tea candles. Lo and behold, someone who really doesn't want to EAT the lutefisk presented to him takes a spoonful and puts it over the tea candle. Naturally, it liquefies and starts to bubble, causing a friend to comment that it should be drawn up in a needle and injected directly into a vein. Hence the phrase "freebasing lutefisk" was born within my social circle. (we were a wild bunch, can't you tell?)
Um Ya Ya,

Freebasing lutefisk? Uffda! If you do that, where do you pour on the butter?

Merry Christmas and may 2007 be a prosperous (and syndicated?) one! :)
--Spike

Indeed, Spike. And although none of you can control the syndicated part, you can all contribute to Rockwood's prosperity by buying a calendar today!

Kinda scary but people in Wisconsin actually know what lutefisk is.

No, what's scary are the ones who eat it!

Happy New Year! I hope you have fun at the Fiesta Bowl.
--Jane Rohan

Well, obviously the result wasn't really what Team Rockwood had in mind, but we still have to admit it was probably the most exciting game we'd ever seen the Sooners lose.

January 2, 2007,
Well, Wisconsin won. Michigan lost. But at least it was to USC. But, BOISE STATE!!??? Jeez oh Pete! It must be so sad down there.

Oh, it's not so bad. While we obviously would have preferred a victory, at least OUR team-in-red played a close game with its orange-and-blue opponents, unlike the following week's team-in-red, which just looked pathetic against their orange-and-blue opponents. Honestly, of the four teams that played in Glendale this year (Oklahoma, Boise State, Florida, and Ohio State), which one looked like they least belonged? We're looking at you, Buckeyes.

January 2, 2007,
Brian,
I'm wondering if you can do any more than a weak croak after that game. I know you didn't find the result totally acceptable, but even so, you must confess that it was one of the all-time great games.
--Jim Rockwood
| | |
 |
|
We'd put it pretty near the top, Jim. The ending would probably go down as THE greatest game, but the first half was so sloppy that we don't know if we could rank the entire game as a classic. Still, had we been sitting at home watching any other two teams play like this, we would have been screaming at the television. As it was, Brian was screaming from the upper deck, about to have a heart attack. Definitely a top-tenner.

January 3, 2007,
The best game I've ever seen. Unfortunately for us, the Sooner defense really didn't show up in the beginning - so we lost.
--Jerry
| | |
 |
|
The defense, the offense... none of the Sooners really appeared to realize what had happened until the end of the first quarter. Oklahoma played three good quarters of football and almost won. But Boise State played four-and-a-half FULL quarters of football. They deserved it.

January 8, 2007,
Brian,
I just have to say thanks for allowing my haiku, to be the longest running Haiku of the Week ever. Almost three weeks in the position. Wow. Now, if you'll only be busy for one more Thursday...
--Brian #3

Sorry, #3. Your streak ends this week! Unless no one else writes in but you, of course. Let's see those haikus, people!

Please accept my sincerest condolences.

January 8, 2007,
Dear Brian,
I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I know how that is, having lost both of mine in years past.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Even though Grandpa had been ill for a long time, it's still a shock when the day actually comes. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers.
